Espiguette naturist beach

Espiguette naturist beach is located in Le Grau-du-Roi, at the south of the quarter Port-Camargue, the largest leisure port of Europe with its 4600 places.

Le Grau-du-Roi is the only coastal town of the Gard department. It is, at the same time, a fisher harbour and a seaside resort. More or less 8500 inhabitants are living there permanently. In the summer, the population can exceed 100 000 inhabitants thanks to the many campsites, hotels, flats and seasonal rental accommodations.

Between the things to see around Le Grau-du-roi, we can mention particularly :

- The Mediterranean with its sandy beaches.
- The Camargue with its flamingos, its bulls, its Camargue horses and its gardians.
- La Grande-Motte and its pyramid like buildings nearby.
- Aigues-Mortes and its remparts and salt marshes at 6 km.
- Montpellier and its cathedral at 32 km.
- Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and its fortified church at 35 km.
- Nîmes and its Roman remains (amphitheater, Maison carrée...) at 50 km.
- Pont du Gard at 70 km.

1 Coming from Aigues-Mortes via the D979 or from Montpellier via the D62B, you will find at the entrance of Le Grau-du-Roi, the roundabout with the tall white street lamp in the middle. From there, follow the sign "L'Espiguette" (D62B).

2 At the following roundabout called "du Fanal" recognizable by the tall black lighthouse, continue straight ahead by following the sign "l'Espiguette" (D62B).

3 At the following roundabout with the trees in the middle, continue straight ahead by following the sign "l'Espiguette" (D255B, route de l'Espiguette).

4 At the following roundabout having a stretched oval form, continue straight ahead (route de l'Espiguette). No signs !

5 At the following roundabout in front of the U Express shop, continue straight ahead by following the sign "Espiguette" (D255B, route de l'Espiguette).

6 At the following roundabout (campsite Beau Soleil, campsite la Marine Tohapi, ranch du Phare), watch out because there is a little trap !
Don't go to the right by following "camping de l'Espiguette". There is also a beach with the advantage of a free car park but with the weak point - for us - that it is not naturist !
So watch out and continue straight ahead by following the sign "Plage de l'Espiguette" (D255B, route de l'Espiguette).

7 Continue straight ahead for some kilometres until you arrive at the entrance of the car park of l'Espiguette, which is also the end of the road.

8 If you are by bike or by feet, you enter for free ! Otherwise, you have to pay (see the rates in the following paragraph).

9 Cross the first part of the car park, until the entrance of the second part that has a porch blocking vehicles higher than 1,9 m to enter. Pass under it and continue straight ahead until the end of the car park. If you are blocked by a small barrier to protect the parking places for bikes and motorbikes, then you are arrived !

10 Park where you can, if you can ! In the weekends and in the summer, the places are precious, not only regarding the price of the car park ! In general, there is an employee of the municipality who will indicate where you can put your car.

11 Once parked, walk to the end of the car park, where you have the place reserved to bikes and motorbikes. Take the path on your right towards the beach, at the signboard "Plage de l'Espiguette Accès N°79".

12 Some metres farther, observe the board on your left, preventing "A 300 m à gauche, plage où la pratique du naturisme est autorisée du 15 avril au 30 septembre", this means : At 300 m on your left, beach where naturism is authorized from the 15th of April to the 30th of September ». Don't be worried by what follows "Stationnement réservé aux adhérents de la Fédération Française de Naturisme" or « Access reserved to the members of the French Federation of Naturism », nobody will ask for your membership card !

13 Arrived on the beach, walk like indicated, 300 metres to the left to arrive at the beginning of Espiguette official naturist beach.
It is easy to recognize because of the board "Hélio club de l'Espiguette. Plage réservée à la pratique du naturisme. Période autorisée du 15 avril au 30 septembre. Début de la portion de la plage. Passage libre en bord de mer." whic means « Helio club de l'Espiguette. Beach reserved to the practice of naturism. Authorized from 15 April to 30 September. Beginning of the nude beach. Passing through accepted along the sea border. »
Behind the board, there are tens, and in summer, even hundreds of naturists getting a nice tan !
